Can I share a PDF of an article?

Faculty often ask if they can share a pdf of an article for students to read. Given our licensing agreements with the database resources, the answer is no. However, you can share the permalink for the article via Canvas and students can access it that way.

Please read the next box for information.

Adding Links to Canvas

To add the link to a book or article to your Canvas course, you will need the permalink, sometimes also called a permanent link or a bookmark. Using the URL located in your browser bar will return an error, except for Ebsco databases--their new interface allows you to use the url as the permalink.

Below are some examples, but it's not exhaustive.

While you can just use the URL for the article as a permalink, you can also generate a smaller url by clicking on "share" to the right and above the title of the article.

You will be able to "Create link" on the next screen. Clicking on that will generate a permalink, which you can then "copy top clipboard" to use in your Canvas course.
